Process

1.  Students will compile a list of owls found on each of the seven continents.  They will designate which owls inhabit more than one continent.

2.  After exploring the many different species of owls, each student will select an owl type to write a report on.  The reports will consist of:
     * A title page
     * Scientific classification of the owl (Kingdom, Phylum, Sub-Phylum, Class, Order)
     * Description of the owl:  including size, weight, coloration, and any other distinguishing features.
     * Describe the sounds made by the owl.  Does it make more than one type of sound?
     * Provide information on vision, hearing, reproduction, and life expectancy.
     * Describe the owl's diet and digestive system.  (draw a diagram to show the digestive process)

3.  Locate and write about at least five myths or legends written about owls.  Tell why you chose each of these.

4.  Following the research process, an owl pellet will be dissected as a culminating activity.  Students will attempt to identify the owl's lunch.  The worksheet will be completed.  A short description of the dissecting process will be added.
